The New York Times Building
New York, New York / USA
Architects: Renzo Piano Building Workshop with FXFOWLE
Developer: Forest City Ratner
The New York Times Building in New York City illuminates the pedestrian experience below with taxi-yellow floodlights, a clever twist to creatively comply with Times Square District requirements; and lace-like screens have a gradient of illumination that activates the building’s striking, iconic façade on the city skyline. Inside, the lobby opens to an atrium garden, simultaneously creating a focal point for the lobby and a backdrop for the auditorium. Inside, walls glow with a rich, golden yellow to create a warm and vibrant experience; the red seats in the auditorium are strategically lit in order to create visual depth and significance.
